What are Complementary Therapies?
Complementary Therapies are the collective name given to forms of treatment that are not usually offered by mainstream, conventional medicine and services.
They usually confer a health benefit that works at a subtle level, and can be used in conjunction with, or to complement, allopathic (mainstream western medicine).
Amme is pleased to have added a number of additional therapies to her repertoire over the past few years, including:
- Swedish Body Massage
- Aromatherapy Massage
- Bach Flower Remedies
- Mindfulness- Based Stress Reduction
What happens at a typical first treatment:
Upon arrival at your first session with me, we will have a chat about your current state of health, and whether you have any particular reasons for coming for the treatment. You will be asked to complete a short questionnaire that ensures that you are fit for a treatment at this time.
We will then discuss if you have any specific objectives for your treatment. For example, would you like to feel more relaxed? would you like relief from pain? or to improve your mood and emotional state?
It is important that we have these discussions and that you let me know about any existing health challenges, so that I can bespoke a treatmtne plan that best suits your individual needs.
Equally, with some of the treatments, there may be particular health challegens that I need to be aware of, so that the treatment does not interfere with what you are currently doing to manage it.
By and large, most complementary therapies are pretty safe, but we must be sure as, for example, there may be certain oils that you should not have with certain conditions, or reflexology points that shouldn’t be presses, if you are pregnant.
DISCLAIMER: You must always see a medical professional if you have a serious health condition and check with your GP if it is alright for you to come to me for a complementary treatment. In some cases, I may need a signed letter from your GP. Complementary therapies are not meant to replace medical treatment where medical treatment is required.
Please see individual pages for more detail on each therapy, and their prices, by clicking on the drop down menu above, or on the words in the list.
