What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an Ancient treatment that dates back to Ancient Egypt, China, and India. It applies pressure to different areas of the feet that correspond to parts of the whole body.
It is believed that reflexology stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal, and provokes deep relaxation and wellbeing.
What can I expect in a Reflexology Treatment?
Your treatment will begin with a long foot and leg massage prior to the actual Reflexology treatment, during which you will also be encouraged to do some relaxing breathing exercises.
The treatment itself involves me tracing lines all over the foot, using a movement called ‘thumb walking’. In effect this is done by gently pushing into the foot with a thumb or finger.
I follow a set process that ensures that all organs and areas of the body, corresponding to areas on the feet, are covered during a treatment. You will receive another foot and leg massage, after the main reflexology treatment, to finish.
During the treatment I may feel little bumps that we call ‘crystals’ in the feet that can be ‘walked’ over again and again until they are broken down. It is believed that these crystals represent areas in the body that may have ‘blockages’ or where you are experiencing health challenges.
Occasionally, when going over these crystals, you may feel a popping sensation. Sometimes, this may cause a little bit of discomfort, which you can mention to me during the treatment if you wish.
At the end of the treatment, we will have a discussion about any areas that I have felt might have been a bit sensitive. I will then suggest ways in which you can support your healing by carrying out certain activities at home. For example, if I have found that you may be a little dehydrated, I might recommend that you increase your intake of water.
If you are experiencing any emotional challenges, I can give you guidance as to how you might overcome or manage them, in my capacity as a therapeutic coach.
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
As with all complementary therapies, we are not able to claim that we can ‘cure’ health issues. However, many people report significant improvements in their health following a course of Reflexology treatments. Some of the main benefits include, but are not limited to:
- Improvement of nerve functions
- Improvement in mental clarity
- Increased blood circulation in the body
- Eliminating toxins from the body
- Boosting Metabolism & Energy Levels
- Relieving migraine and headaches
- Improving Menopause and Menstrual symptoms
- Helping to aid conception and increase fertility
- Inducing calm and relaxation
- Improving emotional and mental health challenges
Many people report improved sleep and a feeling of greatly improved general wellbeing at the very least.
People who are suffering with chronic health challenges and terminal illnesses often find it a very comforting and relaxing treatment that relieves some of the stress that comes with having these conditions.
A Reflexology Treatment lasts for approximately 1 hour 15 minutes and is £60
